The longest comebacks in the records

100 names · 50 girls · 50 boys · records through 2025

A comeback is usually described in decades. This page measures it: every name below is currently climbing, sorted by the gap between the year it last peaked and today.

This guide has 100 names: 50 girl names and 50 boy names. Rising and comeback names ordered by the number of years between their historical peak and today. Built from US Social Security birth records through 2025. Tap + beside any name to keep it on your shortlist as you read.

Before the names

The longest gaps run past a hundred years — names at their height before the First World War and rising again now, having been out of use for the entire lifetime of anyone who might remember them.

That distance is the whole mechanism. A name has to be forgotten completely before it can be rediscovered, which is why the biggest gaps produce the freshest-sounding revivals.
