The story of Junia
Romans 16 greets Andronicus and Junia as outstanding among the apostles. From the twelfth century manuscripts and translations began writing Junias, a masculine form that occurs nowhere else in Greek, because a female apostle was thought impossible. Modern editions have restored her. The name appears in American records in current use.

From the Roman family name Junius, generally derived from the goddess Juno, whose own etymology may relate to a root meaning 'young' or 'vital force'. The month June shares the derivation. The reading is accepted though Juno's own origin is not settled.
