The story of Daisy
Daisy spread in the nineteenth century both as a flower name and as a nickname for Margaret. Juliette Gordon Low of Savannah, known to her family all her life as Daisy, founded the Girl Scouts in 1912, and the youngest Girl Scouts are still called Daisies after her. In 1961 an IBM computer at Bell Labs was programmed to sing 'Daisy Bell' — the song about a bicycle built for two — the first song performed by a synthesized computer voice; Arthur C. Clarke heard it, and HAL sings it as he is shut down in 2001: A Space Odyssey. The spelling is recorded for a handful of boys, but it is a girl's name in every tradition behind it.
