Names with only one spelling

100 names · 50 girls · 50 boys · records through 2025

The opposite of the crowded-family problem: names in confident national use that the records show being spelled exactly one way.

This guide has 100 names: 50 girl names and 50 boy names. Names inside the current top-600 whose spelling family contains no other charting spelling, ordered by rank. Built from US Social Security birth records through 2025. Tap + beside any name to keep it on your shortlist as you read.

Before the names

This is measurable rather than a matter of opinion. A name whose spelling family contains a single charting member is one American parents do not vary — no alternate forms, no respellings competing with it.

For a child that means a lifetime of never spelling their name at a counter. It is the least glamorous advantage a name can have and one of the most-used.
