The story of Regina
The Salve Regina, Hail Holy Queen, is one of the oldest hymns to Mary, sung at the close of the day, and Columbus's journal records his crews singing it at dusk on the Atlantic. The name came from that devotion into Catholic families across Europe and America. On the Canadian prairie, a settlement called Pile of Bones, after the heaps of bison bones left by hunters, was renamed Regina in honor of Queen Victoria, Victoria Regina, and it is now the capital of Saskatchewan. The name is recorded for a very few boys, but it is a woman's name everywhere.

The Glenda test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Regina's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Glenda climbed just as high around 1944, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Glenda's path sketches the road Regina is walking now.
Regina sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
