Grandpa names ready for the playground

Before the names

Some below are already climbing, others are still waiting for their second act — each is shown with its real current standing.

The wave has a front, and it is measurable. Arthur — a top-15 name of the 1880s — is marked a comeback in the current data and sits at #87; Leon is back inside the top-140 from a 1926 peak; Oscar and Walter hold the next band down. These are the grandpa names that have already turned.

One name here is quietly making history: Hank stands at #413, the highest rank it has held in more than a century of records. Not a revival — an all-time high. The workshop nickname is outrunning its own past at the exact moment Henry, its formal source, sits near the very top of the national chart.

The rest of the list is the waiting room, and it is deep: Harold, Ernest, Ralph, Eugene and Stanley — every one a former top-40 name — currently rest outside the top-800, with Elmer, Clarence and Chester further out still. If the hundred-year cycle holds to schedule, this shelf is where the next decade shops.

The practical read: a name's position on this page is a position on the wave. Arthur at #87 is a confirmed trend with company to match; Clarence at #1499 is a genuine rarity with the same century of history behind it. Same style, very different bets — the note beside each name says which one you are making.
