Eight-letter names with presence

100 names · 50 girls · 50 boys · records through 2025

Eight letters is a long name by American standards and, judging by the current top 100, an increasingly fashionable one — several of today's leading names sit at exactly this length.

This guide has 100 names: 50 girl names and 50 boy names. Names of exactly 8 letters inside the current national rankings, ordered by today's rank. Built from US Social Security birth records through 2025. Tap + beside any name to keep it on your shortlist as you read.

Before the names

A name this long almost always arrives with a nickname attached, which is a feature rather than a cost: it lets one child be formal on a diploma and small at bedtime without anything changing on the certificate.

Here is the eight-letter field in the latest national records, in rank order.

Every rank and count here is published by the US Social Security Administration and refreshed each year when the new figures land. The method is stated at the top of this page.
