The story of Nicky
The saint's bones were stolen, and the theft is documented. In the eleventh century a party of merchants from Bari sailed to the town in Asia Minor where he was buried, broke into the tomb, and carried the relics home ahead of a rival expedition from Venice that had the same idea. The townspeople objected; the merchants sailed anyway. Bari built a basilica for them that is still there and still a pilgrimage site, and the anniversary of the arrival is a civic festival. Relic theft of this kind was common enough in the period to have its own literature and its own justifications, the usual one being that the saint had clearly wanted to move.

The Augustine test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Nicky's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Augustine climbed just as high around 1906, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Augustine's path sketches the road Nicky is walking now.
Nicky sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- It is short, warm and completely unisex without straining for it.
- The full name behind it is among the most widely used in the world.
- The spelling and the sound agree with nothing to explain.
- It reads as a short form to many people even when it is the legal name.
- Its peak generation is far enough back to date the name for some ears.
- The record holds girls as well, and the girl is the smaller side.
