Yaquelin
Feminine · “Hebrew Yaakov”
The French peasant revolt of 1358 is called the Jacquerie because the nobles called every peasant Jacques Bonhomme. A rising is named after a first name used as a class insult, and the name behind it is the same one as James.

The story of Yaquelin
Jacques was so common a peasant name in medieval France that the nobility used Jacques Bonhomme, Jack Goodfellow, as a generic and contemptuous term for a countryman. When the peasants of the Beauvaisis rose in May 1358, in the chaos following the capture of the French king at Poitiers, the revolt took that name: the Jacquerie. It lasted about two weeks and was suppressed with great violence. The word entered French and then English as a term for any peasant rising. The mechanism is the same one that made Jack a generic English word for a man and Joe an American one: a name common enough to stand for anybody stops being a name at all. What is unusual here is that the generic use produced the name of a historical event.
