Taurus is among the oldest pictures humanity agreed on. Mesopotamian records identify the Bull of Heaven in the same stars four thousand years ago, and it may be older still — some archaeologists read a cluster of dots beside a bull at Lascaux as the Pleiades, though that reading is disputed.

The story of Taurean
The Babylonian star catalogs list the constellation as GU.AN.NA, the Bull of Heaven, and it appears in the Epic of Gilgamesh in that role. The zodiac itself — a band of twelve constellations along the sun's path — was systematised in Babylon in the first millennium BC and passed to Greece, and the Greek names are largely translations of the Babylonian ones. Taurus mattered particularly because the spring equinox sat in it for roughly two thousand years, from about 4000 to 1700 BC, which is why bull imagery is so pervasive in Bronze Age Mediterranean religion. The American given name Taurean peaks in 1983.
Meaning
Latin "of the bull"
From taurus, a bull, the second sign of the zodiac. The word is shared across Indo-European and Semitic languages — Latin taurus, Greek tauros, Old Irish tarb, and Hebrew and Aramaic tor — a wanderword that spread with cattle. Taurean is an English adjective from the sign, used as a given name; the American figures show it in use from the 1970s.

The Artis test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Taurean's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Artis climbed just as high around 1908, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Artis's path sketches the road Taurean is walking now.

- It ties a bearer to a specific birth month whether or not it fits.
- The stress placement varies between families.
- It reads as an adjective rather than a name.
