The story of Sathvik
The three-guna scheme is one of the oldest systematic ideas in Indian thought, set out in the Samkhya school and taken up by the Bhagavad Gita, which classifies knowledge, action, food, giving and even personality types by which guna dominates. It is not a moral hierarchy in the simple sense — all three are necessary — but sattva is the quality associated with clarity, balance and understanding. The dietary application is still ordinary in India: sattvic food avoids onion, garlic, meat and stimulants, and is the standard fare in ashrams and temple kitchens. The American figures for Sathvik peak in 2007, with South Asian immigration.
Meaning
Sanskrit "pure, of the quality of sattva"
From sāttvika, the adjective from sattva — being, essence, purity, one of the three gunas or constituent qualities of the Samkhya system. The three are sattva, rajas and tamas, and they are held to compose all material things in varying proportions. Sattvic is also a live dietary category in Indian practice, describing foods considered light and clarifying.

SAHT-vik
Two syllables, stress on the first. The th is an aspirated t, not the th of thin — a common source of error, since Indian transliteration uses h to mark aspiration rather than a fricative.

The Day test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Sathvik's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Day climbed just as high around 1932, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Day's path sketches the road Sathvik is walking now.
Sathvik sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
