Rahmel
Masculine · “Arabic "mercy”
In Arabic and Hebrew, mercy and the womb are the same root. Arabic rahma is mercy and rahim is a womb; Hebrew rachamim is compassion and rechem is a womb. The languages built their word for pity out of their word for the place a child is carried.

Our story of Rahmel
The connection between the womb and compassion is made explicitly in both traditions. The Qur'an's opening formula — in the name of God, the Rahman, the Rahim — uses two forms of the root, and classical commentators discuss the difference between them at length. Hebrew does the same: the prophets speak of God's rachamim, usually translated tender mercies, and the singular rechem is a womb, so the metaphor is a mother's feeling for the child she carried. English has nothing comparable; mercy comes from Latin merces, a payment or wages, by way of the idea of a reward, and compassion is simply suffering-with. That is a real difference in how two language families built their moral vocabulary, and it is visible in a name. Rahmel peaks in 1987.

Arabic "mercy", with an added ending
The root r-h-m carries mercy and compassion, and gives rahma, mercy; ar-Rahman and ar-Rahim, the Merciful and the Compassionate, the two divine names that open every chapter of the Qur'an but one; and rahim, a womb. Hebrew has the same root with the same double sense. Rahmel is an American formation joining that element to the -el ending, and the compound has no documented reading.

The Taggart test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Rahmel's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Taggart climbed just as high around 1970, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Taggart's path sketches the road Rahmel is walking now.
