The story of Jacee
The story is told by Ovid and by others. Hyakinthos was loved by Apollo, and by Zephyrus the west wind, who out of jealousy blew a thrown discus off its path so that it struck and killed the boy. Apollo made a flower grow from the blood and marked its petals with AI AI, the Greek cry of grief. The flower the Greeks meant was not the modern hyacinth, probably a larkspur or an iris, and the marks are real: several species carry dark blotches that can be read as letters. The name itself is older than Greek. Words ending in -nthos, like hyakinthos, labyrinthos and Korinthos, are generally taken as survivals from a pre-Greek language of the Aegean, which means the flower and the boy carry a word nobody can trace to any known source.

Jacee is most likely a short form of Jacinta or Jacinda, from Spanish jacinto, the hyacinth, from Greek hyakinthos. That word is pre-Greek and probably borrowed from an older Aegean language, which is why its own origin is unrecoverable. Jacee may equally be a spelling of the initials J and C. The peak is 2008.
