Haneef
Masculine · “Arabic "upright”
Hanif is a technical term for a category of person the Qur'an is careful about. A hanif is a pre-Islamic monotheist — someone who worshipped one God without being Jewish or Christian — and Abraham is repeatedly described as one, which is the point being made.

The story of Haneef
Arabic sources also use hanif for a small number of pre-Islamic Arabians who are said to have rejected idol worship without adopting Judaism or Christianity, and Islamic tradition treats them as having preserved the original monotheism of Abraham. The word's earlier history is debated — a Syriac cognate meant something closer to heathen, and how it reversed sense is not settled. As a personal name Haneef is used across the Arab world and South Asia and is common among American Muslims. The figures peak in 1978, in the period of broad adoption of Arabic names in Black American families.
Meaning
Arabic "upright, inclining to the true faith"
From Arabic ḥanīf, generally read as one who turns away from false belief toward the true. The Qur'an applies it to Abraham several times, stating that he was neither a Jew nor a Christian but a hanif and a muslim, one who submits. The word therefore names a category older than the two established scriptural religions, and its use is a theological argument in a single word.

The Daaiel test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Haneef's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Daaiel climbed just as high around 1957, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Daaiel's path sketches the road Haneef is walking now.
Haneef sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
