The story of Edwardo
The Norman Conquest replaced the English name stock almost completely within three generations. By 1200 the commonest men's names in England were William, Robert, Richard, John and Henry, all Norman, and the Old English names of the pre-Conquest aristocracy had gone: no more Aethelreds, Wulfstans, Leofrics or Godwines. Edward is the exception, and the reason is a single canonization. Edward the Confessor was made a saint in 1161, his cult was promoted by the Angevin kings, and Henry III named his heir after him in 1239. That Edward became Edward I, and the name has been in the royal line ever since. So one saint's cult, sponsored for political reasons a century after his death, is the whole reason an Old English royal name is still ordinary in Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Polish today.
Meaning
Old English ead and weard, wealth and guardian
Edwardo is an American respelling of Spanish Eduardo, from Old English Eadweard, joining ead, riches or prosperity, to weard, guardian. Spanish uses u where English uses w because the Spanish alphabet has no native w. Edward is one of very few Old English royal names to survive the Norman Conquest in continuous use. The peak of this spelling is 1966.

The Werner test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Edwardo's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Werner climbed just as high around 1930, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Werner's path sketches the road Edwardo is walking now.
Edwardo sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
