The story of Dynasti
Dynamai means to be able, and its noun dynamis covers power, capacity, force and, in Aristotle, potentiality as opposed to actuality. From it Greek made dynastes, a man with power, and dynasteia, his rule, which passed through Latin into every European language as dynasty. The scientific descendants came much later and by deliberate coinage. Dynamics was named in the eighteenth century for the study of forces. The dynamo was named in 1867 by Werner von Siemens, from dynamoelectric. Dynamite was named the same year by Alfred Nobel, who wanted a word for the stabilized nitroglycerine he had patented. So a Greek noun about political power supplied both the vocabulary of physics and the trade name of the most consequential explosive of the nineteenth century, whose profits funded the prizes.
Meaning
Greek dynastes, a ruler
Dynasti is a respelling of dynasty, from Greek dynasteia, lordship, from dynastes, a ruler, built on dynamai, to be able or to have power. The same root gives dynamic, dynamo, dynamite and the -dyne of aerodyne. The final i is an American respelling of the -y. The peak is 2009.

The Jeany test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Dynasti's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Jeany climbed just as high around 1943, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Jeany's path sketches the road Dynasti is walking now.
Dynasti sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
