Demar
Masculine
The capital letter in the middle of DeMar is an orthographic innovation English has almost nowhere else. Only Scottish and Irish surnames do it — MacDonald, O'Brien — and, much later, product names like eBay. American naming got there first.

Our story of Demar
A capital letter inside a word is a rare thing in English. The language uses capitals to open sentences and proper nouns, and almost never in the middle — the exceptions being the Gaelic surname prefixes, Mac and Mc and O', which carry a capital because they were once separate words meaning son and grandson. American naming from the 1960s onward adopted the same device for its own prefixes: DeShawn, LaToya, DaQuan, DeMar. The capital marks the prefix as a unit and gives the name a visible internal structure, which is precisely what the Gaelic capitals do. Branding discovered the same trick decades later with iPhone, eBay and PayPal, and style guides have been arguing about it ever since. Demar, peaking in 1978, is an early example of a device that would become ordinary everywhere.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No inherited meaning. De- is a created American prefix, ultimately borrowed from the French and Spanish preposition de, of, which appears in genuine surnames such as De la Cruz and DeVries. Mar- is a stem drawn from names like Marcus and Marquis. Demar has no documented reading, and the prefix contributes sound rather than sense.

The Levert test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Demar's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Levert climbed just as high around 1939, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Levert's path sketches the road Demar is walking now.
Demar sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
