The story of Dallon
John Dalton, born in 1766, is remembered for atomic theory, but his first paper to the Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society, in 1794, was about his own vision. He and his brother could not distinguish red from green, and he described the condition carefully and proposed, wrongly, that the fluid of his eyeball was tinted blue. He left instructions that his eyes be examined after his death; they were, in 1844, and no blue tint was found. In 1995 DNA from the preserved tissue confirmed that he lacked the medium-wavelength pigment, making him a deuteranope. The condition is called daltonisme, daltonismo and daltonizm across Europe. English is the exception, using the plainer term, which is why English speakers meeting the word in another language rarely recognize the man inside it.

The Ruddy test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Dallon's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Ruddy climbed just as high around 1944, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Ruddy's path sketches the road Dallon is walking now.
Dallon sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
