The story of Corinna
Corinna's dates are argued — either a contemporary of Pindar in the fifth century BC or a Hellenistic poet writing in an older dialect — and the surviving fragments show her retelling Boeotian myth: a singing contest between two mountains, the daughters of a river god. Ovid used the name for the woman in the Amores, and English poets took it from him. Corinna appears in American records from the nineteenth century.

The SSA counts spellings, not names. Corinna went to 34 girls in 2025, but Corina, Corrina and Korina and the rest below are the same name said out loud. Together the 5 spellings went to 108, which makes it the 852nd most-given girls’ name of the year — 3,320 places above the chart.
About 1 girl in 14,882 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 47,273 for Corinna itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Lita test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Corinna's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Lita climbed just as high around 1927, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Lita's path sketches the road Corinna is walking now.
Corinna sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
