The story of Savina
The story of the Sabine women is one of Rome's foundational and least comfortable: the Romans abduct them, and when the Sabine army comes for them the women place themselves between the two sides and refuse to be the cause of a war between their fathers and their husbands. Saint Sabina was a second-century martyr with a basilica on the Aventine. Savina appears in American records around 1900 with Italian families.
