The story of Ahmet
Arabic morphology means that a single root can generate an entire family of names with different grammatical shapes, and h-m-d is the clearest case: the passive participle gives Muhammad and Mahmud, the active gives Hamid, the elative gives Ahmad, and the abstract noun gives Hamd, praise. All four are among the most common names wherever Islam reached, and they are transparently related to any Arabic speaker while looking unconnected in English transliteration. Turkish reshaped the vowels and consonants to its own phonology, giving Ahmet and Mehmet, the latter being the Turkish form of Muhammad. The American figures for Ahmet peak in 2015.
Meaning
Arabic "most praiseworthy"
From the root h-m-d, to praise. Ahmad is the elative form — the grammatical pattern that makes comparatives and superlatives in Arabic, as akbar, greater, from kabir. Ahmet is the Turkish spelling and pronunciation. The name is also understood as a second name of the Prophet, on the basis of a Qur'anic verse, which is why Ahmad and Muhammad are often given together.

The Raimundo test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Ahmet's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Raimundo climbed just as high around 1930, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Raimundo's path sketches the road Ahmet is walking now.
Ahmet sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
