The story of Trentyn
Britain has been through at least three complete language replacements, and the river names came through all of them. Thames, Trent, Severn, Avon, Ouse, Tyne, Exe, Dee and Wye are all pre-English, most of them Celtic and a few resisting even that explanation. The mechanism is simple. A newcomer who needs to cross a river asks a local what it is called, and the local's answer is adopted; a newcomer who builds a farm names it himself. So rivers keep their names and settlements do not, and the map of England has an Anglo-Saxon surface over a Celtic hydrology. Avon is the clearest case, since it is simply the Brittonic word for river, meaning generations of English speakers have been saying river river. The Trent joins the Ouse to form the Humber, and all three names predate English by centuries.

Celtic, possibly the trespasser or flooder
Trentyn is built on Trent, the name of a major English river and a surname derived from it. The river name is pre-English and usually explained from Celtic elements meaning strongly flooding or trespasser, referring to a river that floods its banks; the derivation is disputed and may be older than Celtic. The -yn ending is an American respelling of -on or -in. The peak is 2011.

Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Trentyn's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Tavarius climbed just as high around 1996, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Tavarius's path sketches the road Trentyn is walking now.
