Traevon
Masculine
American coined names almost all begin with a single consonant: J, D, K, M, T, L, R. Consonant clusters at the front, Tr-, Br-, Kr-, Sh-, arrived later and are a marker of the 1990s onward. Traevon is one of the cluster generation, and the shape of its first sound dates it as reliably as its ending does.

Our story of Traevon
Our reading is that the sound shapes available to American coinage have expanded over time and that the expansion is datable. The earliest layer, from the 1920s to the 1960s, is almost entirely single consonant plus vowel: La-, De-, Ja-, Ke-, Ma-. That is the simplest possible syllable and the one every language in the world permits. The later layers admit clusters, which are harder and more marked: Tra-, Bra-, Kha-, Shaq-, Dre-. Adding a cluster does two things at once. It makes the name less likely to collide with an existing one, and it borrows the sound of the surname layer, where clusters are common because English surnames are full of them. Traevon peaks in 1995, right in the middle of that shift, and its front half is the newer half of the name.

The Deryk test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Traevon's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Deryk climbed just as high around 1965, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Deryk's path sketches the road Traevon is walking now.
Traevon sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
