The story of Rida
The Sufi manuals of the tenth and eleventh centuries set out the stations of the spiritual path in order, and rida sits among the last of them, after patience and trust: not endurance of what happens but contentment with it. That is why the word carries so much more weight in a name than a translation suggests. Across the Arabic-speaking world Rida is normally a man's name, and its Persian form Reza is one of the most-given men's names in Iran, honoring the eighth Shia Imam. In the United States it appears mostly as a woman's name in South Asian families, and its best year on file is 2005.
Meaning
contentment, satisfaction, acceptance
Arabic rida, from the root r-d-y, to be pleased or satisfied. In Islamic theology it works in two directions: the servant's contentment with God's decree, and God's being pleased with the servant. The phrase radiya Allahu anhu, may God be pleased with him, uses the same root and follows the names of the Prophet's companions.

The Demitra test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Rida's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Demitra climbed just as high around 1976, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Demitra's path sketches the road Rida is walking now.
Rida sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
