The story of Rosette
French diminutives in -ette are fully productive and were used freely on women's names through the nineteenth century, giving Rosette, Jeanette, Antoinette, Georgette and Yvette; the ending marks smallness or affection and nothing else. Rosette traveled to English-speaking countries as one of a batch of French names adopted in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with its best American year in 1961. The similarly-shaped Rosetta, which is Italian rather than French, has its own quite separate history: it is the European rendering of Rashid, a town on the Nile delta, and the stone found there in 1799 gave the word its modern fame.
Meaning
little rose
French Rosette is the diminutive of Rose, formed with the -ette suffix, which is the standard French feminine diminutive. Rose itself descends from Latin rosa, though the personal name may have arrived partly through a Germanic element hros, horse, before being reinterpreted as the flower. The English word rosette, a rose-shaped ornament or arrangement, is the same word borrowed as a noun.

The Roberto test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Rosette's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Roberto climbed just as high around 1933, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Roberto's path sketches the road Rosette is walking now.
Rosette sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
