The story of Elona
Helen of Troy carried a name that Greek itself could not explain, and Christianity then spread it through Helena, the mother of Constantine, who is credited with finding the True Cross and who has churches named for her from Britain to Ethiopia. Every European language reshaped it, and the reshaping went unusually far because the name has no meaning to anchor it: a word nobody can parse is free to drift. Elona sits at the edge of that family, alongside Ilona, Elena and Alona, and it is separately a common name in Albania. Its best American year is 1946.

Not established
Elona is most likely a variant of Elena or of the Hungarian Ilona, both descending from Greek Helene, whose own meaning is not established: proposals include a word for torch or corposant, a connection to the moon goddess Selene, and a pre-Greek source. It is also a genuine Albanian name in current use, and Hebrew elon, an oak, is sometimes offered. None is settled.

The Eulene test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Elona's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Eulene climbed just as high around 1931, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Eulene's path sketches the road Elona is walking now.
Elona sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
