The story of Norberto
Norbert of Xanten, born about 1080, was a worldly cleric until a lightning strike near Vreden changed his life; he founded the Premonstratensian order in 1120, became archbishop of Magdeburg, and worked to end the schism of 1130. His canonization made the name ordinary across Catholic Europe, and Italian and Spanish took it as Norberto. American records show it with Italian and Hispanic immigration, and its peak in 1981 belongs chiefly to Mexican-American and Puerto Rican families rather than to the earlier Italian wave.
Meaning
Bright north; northern brightness
From the Germanic Nordberht, from nord, north, and berht, bright or famous. The reading is settled and both elements are transparent; the same berht gives Albert, Robert, Herbert and Bertha. Whether the north element refers to a direction, a people or an aurora is not specified in the sources — the compound is simply the two words.

The Severo test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Norberto's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Severo climbed just as high around 1904, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Severo's path sketches the road Norberto is walking now.
Norberto sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
