The story of Nomar
Anthony Nomar Garciaparra was born in Whittier, California, in 1973; his father Ramon reversed his own name to make his son's middle name, and the son used it. He came up with the Boston Red Sox in 1996, was Rookie of the Year, and won the American League batting title in 1999 and 2000 — the peak of his fame. American birth records show Nomar essentially absent before 1997, rising through his Boston years, and peaking in 2004, the year he was traded to the Chicago Cubs. It is a clean single-bearer effect, and unusually the bearer is also, through his father, the name's only source.
Meaning
Ramon reversed; the Raymond behind it means counsel-protection
Nomar is Ramon written backwards. Ramon is the Spanish form of Raymond, from the Germanic ragin, counsel, and mund, protection — a settled reading for that name. Reversed, the letters have no meaning of their own, which is the ordinary situation for a name made this way. The invention is documented by the family itself.

The Jahmel test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Nomar's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Jahmel climbed just as high around 1988, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Jahmel's path sketches the road Nomar is walking now.
Nomar sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
