The story of Maxie
Frederick III, Holy Roman Emperor, was an enthusiast for Roman antiquity, and when his son was born in 1459 he built a name out of two figures from the Punic Wars: Quintus Fabius Maximus, the delayer who wore Hannibal down by refusing battle, and Publius Cornelius Scipio Aemilianus, who destroyed Carthage. The blend gave Maximilianus. The boy became Maximilian I, married Mary of Burgundy, and through a run of dynastic marriages laid the foundations of Habsburg power across Europe, which is why the name spread through half the courts of the continent. It is one of the very few European names whose invention is documented to a year, a person and a motive, and the model it followed, taking two admired names and running them together, is exactly what modern parents are accused of doing.
Meaning
Latin maximus, greatest
Maxie is a diminutive of Max, itself short for Maximilian or Maximus, from Latin maximus, the greatest, the superlative of magnus. Maximilian was coined by Frederick III for his son, later Maximilian I, by blending the names of two Roman commanders. Maxie also serves as a short form of Maxine. The American peak is 1935.

Maxie's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Domenic climbed just as high around 1912, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Domenic's path sketches the road Maxie is walking now.
