The story of Marti
Mar is the Aramaic and Syriac word for lord, and it is still a living title in the Syriac churches, placed before the names of saints and bishops: Mar Ephrem, Mar Thoma. Its feminine, marta, is a lady or the mistress of a household, and that is the name of the woman in Bethany who complains in Luke that she is doing all the work. The name is unusual in the Gospels for being Aramaic rather than Hebrew or Greek and for being left as it stands. Maranatha, which Paul quotes in Aramaic at the end of 1 Corinthians without translating it, contains the same word: maran atha, our Lord has come, or marana tha, our Lord, come. It is one of the very few phrases of the earliest Aramaic-speaking church preserved in its own language.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names.
