The story of Konstantina
Constantinople was Constantine's city, refounded on the site of Byzantium in 330 and called the New Rome in official documents, but Greek speakers usually just called it he Polis, the City, and the phrase eis tin Polin, to the City or in the City, was what a traveler said. The standard explanation of Istanbul is that Turkish took that phrase as a name, which fits the form and is supported by early Ottoman spellings, though some scholars prefer a simpler shortening of Constantinople itself. The city carried both names in Ottoman use for centuries, and Istanbul became the sole official name in 1930. The same mechanism produced other place names from misheard phrases, and it is one of the reasons toponymy is difficult: what looks like a word may be a sentence somebody overheard.
Meaning
Latin constans, steadfast
Konstantina is the Greek feminine of Constantine, from Latin Constantinus, a derived form of constans, standing firm, steadfast or constant. Constantine the Great gave his name to Constantinople, refounded in 330. The K spelling follows Greek transliteration rather than the Latin C. The American peak is 1977.

The Adana test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Konstantina's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Adana climbed just as high around 1956, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Adana's path sketches the road Konstantina is walking now.
Konstantina sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
