The story of Kennedie
The timing is the interesting part. Commemorative naming after a death produces an immediate spike if it happens at all, and the American record shows no such spike for Kennedy in 1964. What happened instead was nothing for three decades, and then a steady rise from the mid-1990s, overwhelmingly for girls, alongside Madison, Mackenzie, Reagan and Peyton. That pattern is a surname fashion, not a memorial. The mechanism appears to be that a name closely attached to one famous person is unusable while the attachment is strong, because the child would be understood as a reference; once the association softens to a general one, the name becomes ordinary raw material. Thirty years is roughly a generation, which is about how long it takes for the people making naming decisions to have no direct memory of the event.

Irish ceann and eidigh, helmeted or ugly head
Kennedie is a respelling of Kennedy, from Irish O Cinneide, descendant of Cinneidigh, a personal name joining ceann, a head, to a second element read either as helmeted or as ugly. The two readings compete and neither is settled. The peak of this spelling is 2007.
