Jaquon
Masculine
Old English wrote the sound kw with the letters cw: cwen, a queen, cwic, alive, cwellan, to kill. Norman scribes replaced it with qu, which is why we now write queen, quick and quell. The q in Jaquon is a French import into English spelling, and it has never once appeared without a u behind it.

Our story of Jaquon
Our reading is that the q in this family of names is doing something that repays a second look. English never uses q alone: the letter is always followed by u, and the pair stands for the sounds k and w. That is a rule with no exceptions in native vocabulary, and it dates from the eleventh century, when Norman scribes rewriting English texts replaced the perfectly serviceable cw with the Latin qu they were used to. So a coinage that uses q is using a letter that has been in the language for nine hundred years and has never been allowed to work on its own. What makes the -quan and -quon endings genuinely inventive is that no English word ends in q plus a vowel: quay and quiet have it at the front, and nothing has it at the back. The ending is a shape English had left unoccupied.

Not established
Jaquon is an American formation joining the Ja- prefix to the -quon ending, which appears across Daquon, Raquon and Marquon. Neither element has an inherited meaning. The qu spelling represents a single consonant cluster and is inherited from Norman scribal practice rather than from any source language for the name. It peaks in 2000.

The Meliton test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jaquon's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Meliton climbed just as high around 1932, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Meliton's path sketches the road Jaquon is walking now.
Jaquon sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
