Germain

Germane means from the same parents. Latin germanus is a full brother, one sharing both parents rather than one, and the English adjective meaning relevant descends from it; Hamlet uses it in that older sense, and a first cousin is still a cousin-german.

The story of Germain
Latin germanus means a sibling by both parents, as distinct from a half-sibling, and it comes from germen, a shoot or bud, the source also of germ, germinate and germane. English borrowed the adjective in the sense of closely related, and it survives in cousin-german for a first cousin and in the general sense of relevant or pertinent, which is what Hamlet means when he says the phrase would be more german to the matter. The identical-looking name for the Germanic peoples is a separate problem: Caesar and Tacitus use Germani, the Germans themselves did not, and the word's origin has been argued for centuries with Celtic, Latin and Germanic sources proposed and none established. The two words look like one and almost certainly are not.

Latin germanus, of the same parents
Germain is the French form of Latin Germanus, meaning a full brother, from germen, a sprout or offshoot. Whether the Roman name for the Germanic peoples comes from the same word is disputed and probably not; the tribal name's origin is unknown. St Germain of Auxerre and St Germain of Paris made the name common in France. The American peak is 1972.

Germain's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Arcadio climbed just as high around 1955, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Arcadio's path sketches the road Germain is walking now.
