The Akkadian pair asu and erebu, sunrise and sunset, gave Greek the words that became Asia and Europe, so two of the seven continents are named for the direction the sun was seen to move from a single vantage point in Mesopotamia. Asia became an American girls' name in the 1970s, one of a group of place names taken up in the same period, and once it was in circulation the prefix system did what it always does. Dasia is Asia with a D on the front, and the record shows it rising through the 1980s and peaking in 1997. Whether any family choosing it was thinking of the continent is unknowable and beside the point; what the name carries is a sound with a very long history and a prefix with none.

The most likely account is that Dasia is the D- prefix of American naming attached to Asia, itself used as a girls' name in the United States since the 1970s. The continent's name is usually traced to Akkadian asu, to go out or rise, of the sun. A second route makes Dasia a form of Dacia, the Roman province north of the Danube. Neither can be settled, and the prefix carries no meaning either way.
