The story of Brianne
Brian Boru was high king of Ireland and died at Clontarf in 1014, in a battle that ended large-scale Norse ambition on the island; his name has never gone out of Irish use since. It spread through the English-speaking world in the twentieth century and became extremely common in America from the 1960s. Feminines followed in the usual American way — Brianna, Brianne, Bryana — with Brianne peaking in the late 1980s.

Not established
Brian's origin is not settled. The most-repeated readings connect it to a Celtic element bre, 'hill' — hence 'high' or 'noble' — or to bri, 'esteem' or 'worth'. Both are reconstructions. The -anne ending is a French feminine addition and carries no meaning of its own.

Brianne's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Dixie climbed just as high around 1938, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Dixie's path sketches the road Brianne is walking now.
