Annasophia
Feminine · “Greek sophia”
Hagia Sophia is not named after a saint. It is dedicated to Holy Wisdom, an attribute of God, which is why the church has no St Sophia behind it. The most famous building in Christendom is named for an abstract noun, and almost everyone assumes otherwise.

The story of Annasophia
Justinian's church in Constantinople, completed in 537, is dedicated to Hagia Sophia, Holy Wisdom, one of a set of Byzantine dedications to divine attributes alongside Hagia Eirene, Holy Peace, and Hagia Dynamis, Holy Power. Wisdom in this sense comes out of the Hebrew scriptures, where Wisdom is personified as a woman present at creation, and out of the New Testament, where Paul calls Christ the wisdom of God. So the church is dedicated to God under a title, not to a person. The legend of a St Sophia with three daughters called Faith, Hope and Charity, which circulated widely in the middle ages, is generally regarded as a story invented to explain the dedications, turning abstractions into a family. The name Sophia entered European use carrying both the concept and the invented saint.
Meaning
Greek sophia, wisdom
Annasophia joins Anna, from Hebrew channah, favor or grace, to Sophia, Greek for wisdom. Sophia entered Christian naming as a personification of divine wisdom rather than through a historical woman; the martyr Sophia of the Roman legends appears to be a later back-formation from the concept. The American record collapses the space between the two names. The peak is 2007.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names.
