The story of Andreina
Alonso de Ojeda's expedition of 1499, on which Amerigo Vespucci sailed, reached the Gulf of Venezuela and found indigenous villages built on piles over the shallow water of Lake Maracaibo. The Italian navigators aboard are credited with the comparison to Venice, and Venezuela, little Venice, went onto the charts. An alternative account derives the name from an indigenous word, Veneciuela, recorded by a later chronicler, but the Venetian explanation is the older and better attested. The result is that a country of a million square kilometres is named with an Italian diminutive for a resemblance noticed from a boat in a single afternoon. The name Americo, and through it America itself, comes from the same voyage and the same Florentine, which makes that expedition unusually productive of place names.
Meaning
Greek andreios, manly or courageous
Andreina is the Italian and Venezuelan feminine of Andrea, from Greek Andreas, built on aner, andros, a man, with the adjective andreios, manly or brave. In Italy Andrea is a man's name and Andreina its feminine; in Venezuela both Andreina and Andrea are given to women. The American peak is 1989.

Andreina's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Jacquelynn climbed just as high around 1952, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Jacquelynn's path sketches the road Andreina is walking now.
Andreina sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
