Aleesia
Feminine · “noble”
Aleesia writes an unambiguous long e into a name that has always had trouble with it. Alicia, Alisha, Alysia and Aleisha all argue about how the middle syllable is said; the ee digraph settles it. That is the whole function of this spelling, and it is a common enough solution that dozens of American names use it. Aleesia's highest year on record is very recent.

From Adalheidis to Aleesia
The story of Aleesia
Adalheidis was a tenth-century empress and saint, and her name was among the most common in medieval Europe. French wore it down: Adalheidis to Adelaide to Aalis to Alis, one of the sharpest compressions in the history of European naming. English Alice arrived from that. Latin documents then re-expanded Alice as Alicia, and Spanish and Italian took up the longer form. The modern American spellings all descend from Alicia and disagree only about how to write its middle. Aleesia belongs to a specific American convention: when a vowel is ambiguous, double the e. It produced Aleesia, Aleena, Meelah and Kaileesha in the same decades.
Meaning
noble
The name descends from Alice, which descends from Adelaide — Germanic Adalheidis, from adal, 'noble', and heid, 'kind, sort, appearance'. Old French compressed Adalheidis to Aalis and then Alis, and English took Alice from that. Alicia is the Latinized form of Alice, made in the medieval period the way Latin documents Latinized everything. Every spelling in the family, including this one, carries the same meaning by inheritance.

uh-LEE-see-uh
Four syllables, stress on the second, with an unambiguous long e — which is the point of the doubled letter. A three-syllable uh-LEE-shuh is also heard, treating the si as a sh, and that is how Alicia is most often said in American English.

- counting every spelling
The SSA counts spellings, not names. Aleesia went to 21 girls in 2025, but Alesia, Alecia and Alesya are the same name said out loud. Together the 4 spellings went to 81, which makes it the 879th most-given girls’ name of the year — 4,843 places above the chart.
About 1 girl in 19,843 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 76,537 for Aleesia itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Sivan test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Aleesia's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Sivan climbed just as high around 1987, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Sivan's path sketches the road Aleesia is walking now.
Aleesia sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- The doubled e removes the vowel ambiguity that the whole name family suffers from.
- Lisa, Ali and Sia are all available and all current.
- The underlying meaning is settled, ancient and expressible in one word.
- The name family has at least eight common spellings and hers will be guessed wrong.
- Even with the ee, the si can be read as either see or sh.
- It is rare enough that it will always be spelled out.
