Two-letter names: the shortest in the records
53 names · 13 girls · 40 boys · records through 2025
Two letters is the floor. Below this there is no name, and the set that reaches it is small enough that this page is not a selection — it is very nearly the whole inventory the current records hold.
This guide has 53 names: 13 girl names and 40 boy names. Names of exactly 2 letters inside the current national rankings, ordered by today's rank. Built from US Social Security birth records through 2025. Tap + beside any name to keep it on your shortlist as you read.
Before the names
Most began life as short forms and simply stayed: Bo, Jo, Al, Ty. What they share is that nobody has ever had to spell one twice.
Every name here is verified in the latest national data, with its rank alongside.
