Our story of Tj
Ours, offered as ours. There is a specific American reason for initial names: in the nineteenth-century South a great many men used two initials and no expanded name at all, and army and census clerks recorded them as given. The habit was strong enough that the military eventually had to invent a convention — a soldier whose legal name was two letters was recorded with the note that the initials stood for nothing. TJ inherits that, and it is a genuinely American thing to be called.

No inherent meaning. The letters stand for whatever names the family used — Thomas James, Tyler Joseph, Terrence Jamal — and once written as TJ they cease to point at anything and become the name.

The Veryl test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Tj's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Veryl climbed just as high around 1913, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Veryl's path sketches the road Tj is walking now.
Tj sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Two letters — as short as a name can possibly be.
- Impossible to mispronounce or misspell once heard.
- Jay works as a complete name in its own right.
- It reads as an abbreviation, and forms will ask what it stands for.
- Systems that require more than two characters will reject it.
- There is no meaning behind it at all, which some find a loss.
