The story of Vladislav
The compounding system is nearly identical to the Germanic one and produces the same effect: a small pool of dignified elements recombined endlessly, so that a family could give each child a distinct name that still announced its rank. Slavic used vlad, rule; mir, peace or world; slav, glory; bog, god; svet, light or holy; and a dozen others. The English word slave descends from the ethnonym Slav through medieval Latin sclavus, a legacy of the large-scale trade in captives from Slavic lands into the Mediterranean, and it is one of the few English words whose history is an entire people's misfortune. Whether slava, glory, and the ethnonym Slav share a root is disputed and probably not resolvable, so the temptingly neat claim that the names mean glory-people should not be made.
Meaning
Slavic volod and slava, rule and glory
Vladislav joins the Slavic element volod or vlad, to rule, to slava, glory, giving something like glorious rule. It is the standard form in Russian, Czech, Slovak and Serbian, and appears in Polish as Wladyslaw. The name was borne by kings of Bohemia, Poland and Hungary. The American peak is 2003, with post-Soviet migration.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. The Corydon test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Vladislav's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Corydon climbed just as high around 1946, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Corydon's path sketches the road Vladislav is walking now.
Vladislav sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
