Our story of Tyshawn
Our reading rather than the record's. Ty had become a name in its own right in American use by the 1970s, clipped out of Tyler and Tyrone and standing alone. Shawn was among the most-used boys' names in the country. Putting them together produced Tyshawn, and the same workshop produced Rashawn, Deshawn and Keshawn within a few years. What is worth saying is that the pieces were not random: they were the two most familiar sounds available, and joining them made something new out of nothing borrowed.

God is gracious
The Shawn in it is documented: Irish Seán is the Gaelic form of John, from Hebrew Yohanan. Whether Tyshawn was built on that name or assembled from the Ty- and -shawn pieces that were both highly productive in American naming is not recorded.
