Where it comes from

Our story of Kaydon

Ours, offered as ours. This whole family of names descends from a single real one. Aidan is Irish, a diminutive of the word for fire, and when it became popular in America in the 1990s it did something unusual: instead of spawning spelling variants, it spawned rhymes. Jayden, Brayden, Kayden, Hayden and Kaydon are not versions of Aidan — they are new names built to sound like it. One Irish name generated a whole rhyme family, and Kaydon is one of its later members.

Meaningnot established

Not established

No source language is established. The construction is documented: a Kay- opening that produced Kayla, Kaylee and Kayden, and a -don ending shared with Braydon, Jaydon and Haydon in the same decades. The rhyme family began with Aidan, a genuine Irish name meaning little fire.

Kaydon sits in the rare tail. Its best year on record was 2014, with 98 boys. Today it is given to few enough children that it does not enter the ranked charts at all.

Rank is a position, a count is a headcount, and they move independently — a name can hold its rank while the number of babies behind it falls. Source: U.S. Social Security Administration.

Spellings of Kaydon

#3314
Kaydon on the 2025 chart
#882
counting every spelling

The SSA counts spellings, not names. Kaydon went to 35 boys in 2025, but Kaidon is the same name said out loud. Together the 2 spellings went to 46, which makes it the 882nd most-given boys’ name of the year — 2,432 places above the chart.

About 1 boy in 37,132 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 48,802 for Kaydon itself.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method
