Tatiana became a major name in the eastern church through a Roman martyr and has been continuously used in Russia and the Balkans ever since; Tania and Tanya are its ordinary short forms there. Spanish and Latin American naming took up Tania in the twentieth century, and the respellings followed. Adding an h after a consonant is a recurring American and Latin American habit — Thalia, Thania, Rhonda, Thomasa — and it generally does nothing phonetically. What it does is make the name look older or more elaborate on the page, which is the point of it.

Tatiana is the feminine of Tatianus, which derives from Tatius — the family name of Titus Tatius, the Sabine king who in Roman legend shared the throne with Romulus. What Tatius itself meant is not recoverable; it is Sabine rather than Latin, and Sabine is barely attested. So the name has a documented line back to the beginning of Roman legend and no meaning at the end of it. The h in this spelling adds nothing to either the line or the gap.
