Tasia
Feminine · “Greek anastasis”
At least ten women claimed to be the surviving Grand Duchess Anastasia. The most persistent, known as Anna Anderson, maintained it for sixty years and was believed by some of the family. DNA testing in 1994 showed she was not related to the Romanovs, and the discovery of the remaining bodies in 2007 confirmed that nobody escaped.

The story of Tasia
The Romanov family was killed in a cellar in Yekaterinburg in July 1918 and the bodies were disposed of badly, which is where the rumors started. Two sets of remains were separated from the rest, and for seventy years the family grave held nine of eleven people, leaving room for the story that a daughter and a son had escaped. Anna Anderson, pulled from a Berlin canal in 1920, claimed to be Anastasia for the rest of her life, sued unsuccessfully for recognition through the German courts for decades, and convinced a number of people who had known the family. She died in 1984. Genetic testing in 1994 on preserved tissue identified her as a Polish factory worker named Franziska Schanzkowska. In 2007 the two missing bodies were found nearby, and testing matched them to the family. The name's meaning, resurrection, is an accident that nobody involved could have designed.
Meaning
Greek anastasis, resurrection
Tasia is a short form of Anastasia, from Greek ana, up or again, and stasis, a standing, giving resurrection. The name is common in Greece and Russia. Anastasia Nikolaevna, the youngest daughter of Nicholas II, was killed with her family in 1918, and the rumor that she survived generated impostors for most of the twentieth century. It peaks in the American data in 1985.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Roxanna test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Tasia's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Roxanna climbed just as high around 1954, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Roxanna's path sketches the road Tasia is walking now.
Tasia sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
