Our story of Rashaun
Most American naming prefixes cannot be traced to anything. La-, De-, Ja-, Ka- and Ta- are syllables, and attempts to source them are guesswork. Ra- and Sha- are different, because a specific set of Arabic-derived names entered American circulation in the 1960s and 1970s through conversion and through public figures, and those names were common enough for their opening syllables to detach. Rashad, Rasheed, Raheem, Rahim and Rashida supplied Ra-; Shakir, Shahid and Sharif supplied Sha-. Once detached the syllable behaves like any other prefix, combining freely with endings that have nothing to do with Arabic, so Rashaun joins an Arabic opening to an Irish ending by way of an American system that treats both as raw material. The result carries no meaning from either source, which is worth saying plainly rather than assigning it one.
Meaningnot established
Not established
Rashaun has no inherited etymology as a whole. Its opening syllable is drawn from the Arabic-derived names Rashad, Rasheed and Raheem, and its ending from Sean or Shaun, the Irish form of John. Neither element carries its meaning into the compound. The peak is 1978.

The Dwyane test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Rashaun's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Dwyane climbed just as high around 1962, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Dwyane's path sketches the road Rashaun is walking now.
Rashaun sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
