Quiana
Feminine
Quiana is the same name as Qiana with English spelling applied. English does not leave a q bare — in nearly every word the language has, a q is followed by a u — so a name that arrived without one acquired one almost immediately. This is the version that obeys the rule, and it is the more common of the two.

The story of Quiana
The u is doing real orthographic work. English inherited the qu pair from Latin and applies it without exception in native vocabulary, so a bare q reads as foreign and slows a reader down. Adding the u normalizes the name — it becomes something an English speaker can process without pausing, at the cost of looking slightly less distinctive. Both spellings entered American records in the same year and rose together, and this one overtook the other, which is what usually happens when a name is offered in a regular and an irregular version at the same time.

Not established
There is no etymology to report, and the reason is worth stating plainly rather than filling in: the name began as a registered trademark, and trademarks are designed to mean nothing so that nobody else can claim them. Various origins circulate — Chinese, Arabic, an African language — and none of them can be supported. A family may of course give the name a meaning of their own, but they will be assigning one rather than discovering it.

Pronouncing Quiana
kee-AH-nuh
kee-AH-nuh, three syllables, stress in the middle. Some read the qu as in queen and produce kwee-AH-nuh, which the spelling genuinely invites — this is the cost of adding the u, and it is a real one.

The Karolyn test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Quiana's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Karolyn climbed just as high around 1941, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Karolyn's path sketches the road Quiana is walking now.
Quiana sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- It follows English spelling rules, so it does not stop a reader the way the bare q does.
- Ana is a ready short form and is entirely at home in several languages.
- The sound is soft and open and sits well against a blunt surname.
- The u invites the kwee reading, which is the opposite of the problem it was added to solve.
- Kiana, Qiana and Kianna are all in use, and the spelling has to be given every time.
- There is no meaning behind it and no language to look one up in, which is worth deciding how to explain.
