Queena
Feminine · “queen”
Queena is the English word with a vowel added, and the addition is the only thing that makes it a name rather than a noun. The word itself is half of one of the neatest pairs in English: two words from one root, one of which rose to the top of society and one of which fell out of it entirely.

The story of Queena
Old English had a word that meant a woman, and by a small difference in its ending it also had a second form of the same word. One of them became queen, narrowing from any woman, to a king's wife, to the specific office. The other became quean, kept the general sense for a while, then slid: a woman, then a bold or ill-behaved woman, then a term of abuse, and by the eighteenth century it was effectively out of polite use and is now archaic in every sense. The two were pronounced differently for centuries and then the vowels merged, so that modern English has a pair of homophones with opposite social positions and one root. The pattern is not unusual — the same slide happened to words like hussy, which began as an ordinary term for the mistress of a house — but this is the clearest example, because the two halves are still visible side by side.
Meaning
queen
The English word, from an Old English noun that originally meant simply a woman or a wife and narrowed to mean the king's. The added final vowel is a modern device for turning a word into a name and carries nothing of its own.

Fashion outlook
Queena sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Every reader knows the word, so the sound needs no teaching.
- Queenie is available as a familiar form and has its own history.
- The spelling follows English rules exactly once the added vowel is known.
- It is an ordinary noun with a very large meaning attached, and that arrives before the child does.
- Queenie and Queena are both recorded and will be confused in writing.
- The added vowel is easy to miss, so the name is written as the bare word by mistake.
