Naveed
Masculine · “Persian navid”
Persian naming is not built on religion. Where Arabic names are overwhelmingly theophoric or Quranic, Persian ones draw on abstract nouns and on the Shahnameh, a tenth-century epic of pre-Islamic kings. Navid, glad tidings, belongs to the abstract half of that stock.

The story of Naveed
The Shahnameh, completed by Ferdowsi around 1010, is the reason the Persian name stock looks so different from the Arabic one. It preserved the pre-Islamic royal and heroic tradition in Persian at a moment when Arabic was displacing it, and its characters supplied names that are still standard: Rostam, Sohrab, Kaveh, Bahram, Esfandiar, Manuchehr, Tahmineh, Rudabeh, Manijeh. Alongside them sits a second class of ordinary Persian abstract nouns used directly as names: Navid, good news; Omid, hope; Shirin, sweet; Arezoo, wish; Roshan, bright; Mehr, kindness or the sun. Neither class involves God at all. A Muslim country whose given names are largely epic and secular is unusual, and it is a direct result of one poet's decision to write a national history in a language that was losing ground.
Meaning
Persian navid, good news
Naveed is a transliteration of Persian navid, meaning good news, glad tidings or the announcement of something awaited. The doubled e writes the long i of the original. The name is used in Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and carries no religious content, which distinguishes it from the Arabic-derived layer of Muslim naming. The American peak is 1987.

The Burman test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Naveed's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Burman climbed just as high around 1924, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Burman's path sketches the road Naveed is walking now.
Naveed sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
